Introduction
The story of The picture of Dorian Grey begins when Dorian encounters Lord Henry in Basil's studio. There Lord Henry congests Dorian with his view of life which centered around beauty and pleasure. Dorian gets completely engrossed and infested with Lord Henry's perspective of life. Things get messier when Basil presents to them a painting of an astonishing Dorian. Completely capitulated by the beauty of the picture, Dorian gets drunk in intoxicating envy that the picture would remain young and maintain its beautiful looks while he himself would get old ravished by time and shrink into a shivering cocoon deserted of youth. Dorian emphatically wishes the tables were turned and he be on the immortal side of the picture that never ages while the picture replaces him in his transient state a prey of time and vulnerable to aging.
Lord Henry and Dorian on shared perspective get immersed in a well bonded relationship as Lord Henry regularly injected pints of his ideologies into the mesmerized Dorian. Soon Dorian finds love in an actress Sibyl and things progress into an engagement between the lovebirds. Dorian and Henry would together attend a performance by Sibyl where Sibyl's play in the performance was a crucial mess. In anger, Dorian terminates their engagement. When Dorian got home, he realized that the picture Basil painted of him wore a strange new smirk.
As the storm of anger in Dorian calms the next day, and his brains appropriately return to their captain role of sailing his whole body, Dorian is overcome with guilt but his attempts to transport his apology to Sibyl ended up as crying over spilled milk. He quickly learns that Sibyl overwhelmed with frustration had resorted to the welcoming arms of suicide to escape the emotional furnace of being separated from Dorian. But then Lord Henry manages to separate Dorian from any sense of responsibility in the suicide which confounds Basil who is so shocked that Dorian was terribly malnourished of apology for a suicide Dorian directly sponsored.
Wishes come true but true for how long?
It becomes obvious to Dorian that his wish has come true and the painting was now his soul. Lost in fear that the cat would run outside the bag and meow loudly, he hid the painting. And then the years run past Dorian, taking no toll on him as his youth is well fortified against the invading horde of age and time. But Dorian with the passing time slide into deeper evils even murdering his dear Basil. He had shown Basil his hideous portrait and totally astonished and paled, Basil urges Dorian to ventilate his heart of the arduous evil that has smeared it by repenting. But Dorian so loves his page, he is very reluctant to turn a new page. His temper forcefully dislodges reason from him and Dorian in murderous fiery stabs Basil to death with a knife. He manages to twist around the murder by transferring responsibility for the murder to Alan a chemist who ends up being unduly deported to the after life.
Dorian then manages to sneaks through the vengeful hands of karma with Sibyl's brother James Vane who has been hunting Dorian to exact his deserved pound of flesh for the death of his sister. Dorian bores an escape for himself with his silver tongue enhanced with his 19-years-old looks managing to convince Vane that he was too young to have a hand in the death of Sibyl which happened some eighteen years ago. Dorian is freed of the haunting shadows of James as James is mistakenly shot in Dorian's house by Geoffrey on hunting.
The misery of changing when it is too late
The blood stains on his palms get too conspicuous to Dorian as he has judiciously being a culprit in four deaths. His conscience which had been previously retried gets back to active service. Then Dorian sees the need to reinvent himself and sponge his life of all the murderous stains splattered across it all these years he chased youth. Lost in grief he chooses to destroy the hideous portrait with the very knife he booked a visa a flight for Basil in the next world. But the tables around again, but this time against him as Dorian's servants who heard a cry rushed up to see Dorian lying dead with a knife lodged in his chest. Dorian gets critically old again as the servants are only to recognize him from the jewelry he had on his fingers.
